While I welcome the government move to link aadhar with electoral roll, i doubt why the government chooses to pass such bills without any discussion in the parliament. (Same is the case with the bill to raise the marriageable age of girls to 21 years)
Such hurry shown by the government gives an impression that it had some hidden agenda in the matter, even though the ultimate result is appreciable. This also gives the opposition a stick to beat the government with!
I was also surprised to see the opinion of Dr Shashi Tharoor regarding the linking of aadhar with electoral rolls. He has opined that since aadhar is not a proof of citizenship, linking the same with electoral rolls will lead to giving electoral rights to non citizens !! I wonder whether Dr Tharoor is such a naive person to make such foolish opinion or he actually acts like that! As a result of the proposal, those who have got their names enrolled in electoral list are required to link their aadhar to it so that identity of a voter can easily be established at the time of voting and the chances of bogus voting can be eliminated. It is not the other way round linking aadhar numbers with electoral cards, i believe. Or in other words, a person who has an electoral card can link his/her card with aadhar, while a person who has an aadhar will.not be able to get electoral card. However, i wonder why the government has made the linking only voluntary and not mandatory , which leads to suspicion over it's intentions!
